Taking responsibility for disruption at airports
sir – David Lammy, the shadow foreign secretary, complains about long queues at Stansted (report, June 20).
Having used the airport recently, I can say that there was no chaos. Queues were no longer than in previous years, the staff were very good at moving people forward and the whole experience was better than expected.
Levelling criticism at the Government when it is the airports’ own responsibility to administer the management of the airport is completely unacceptable.

Horncastle, Lincolnshire sir – The Competition and Markets Authority should be asked to look into the lack of competition in the airline industry that has allowed the incumbents to deliver such a poor standard of service recently.
There are quasi monopolies of airlines at airports (for example, easyjet at Gatwick North) and a lack of effective competition on a lot of routes.
Cancelled flights and a lack of customer service when things go wrong warrant a thorough investigation.
