Menopause to blame for snoring, study suggests
Menopause may be to blame for middle-aged women’s snoring, scientists have found, and HRT may be able to help.
Female sex hormones, such as oestrogen and progesterone, drop as a ovulation ceases and a Norwegian study of more than 700 women found that those with lower levels of the chemicals were more likely to snore or suffer from sleep apnoea.
Adjusting female sex hormones, including via hormone replacement therapy (HRT), might be a way to combat the sleeping issues, the research suggests.
