Anna Maxwell Martin is as dogged and curious as Line of Duty’s Patricia Carmichael as she digs into unarguably tragic stories from both branches of her family tree. On her father’s side there is a heartbreaking story of premature death, on her mother’s, an appalling history of abuse, neglect and separation redeemed by a communal determination not to let the past dictate the future. Harrowing, but ultimately uplifting. GT
