Spanish king can appeal against ex-lover ruling
The former king of Spain has been given permission to appeal after losing a High Court fight with a former lover.
Corinna zu Sayn-wittgenstein-sayn, a Danish businesswoman, has taken legal action against King Juan Carlos and is seeking damages for personal injury, alleging he caused her “great mental pain” by spying on and harassing her. The king, 84, denies wrongdoing. His lawyers argue he is “entitled to immunity from the jurisdiction of the English courts”. But the High Court ruled against him.
Yesterday, two Court of Appeal judges gave his lawyers permission to appeal against the ruling and said that a full hearing should be held “soon”.
