Stonehenge ‘moved from Wales’ theory in ruins
Stonehenge was not relocated from Wales, archaeologists have found, debunking the theory that it was a “second-hand monument”.
Last year, research suggested that the landmark’s smaller bluestones, which are known to have come from the Preseli Hills in west Wales, had been taken from a previous stone circle erected in Pembrokeshire and transported 180 miles to Salisbury.
However, researchers who devised that theory now believe Stonehenge was not a “second-hand monument” after all.
Prof Mike Parker Pearson has explained that the material does not match the proposed “original” site.
