Below par Border Force migrant action ‘suboptimal’
Border Force’s approach to tackle migrants has been ineffective, a review by Alexander Downer, the former Australian foreign minister, has said.
It found Border Force had been performing at a “suboptimal level”, was “struggling to get out of a cycle of crisis management,” and was “stretching its resources in an unsustainable and highly inefficient way”. His report said the force was “effectively rescuing people and then escorting them into port”, in a challenge it was “ill-equipped to deal with”.
