Sleek and bespoke approach to last lap of leadership race

RISHI SUNAK opted to wear a £3,500 suit ahead of the crunch Tory leadership vote that saw him make it through to the final two in the race.

The former chancellor was pictured looking confident and cleancut in a tailored navy suit and light blue tie as he left his campaign office in London before the vote yesterday afternoon.

Mr Sunak and Liz Truss, the Foreign Secretary, finished in the top two places after five rounds of voting by Tory MPS, with Penny Mordaunt eliminated.

Once the golden boy of the Tory Party, Mr Sunak aimed to look the part of the UK’S next prime minister with his choice of attire. The 42-year-old has hit headlines previously for his sartorial elegance, earning him the moniker “Dishy Rishi”.

Mr Sunak steers clear of designer labels, particularly after he became the first frontline politician to be included in The Sunday Times Rich List in May. He and his wife, Akshata Murty, are equally ranked on the list at 222nd with a joint fortune of £730million.

His business career, with spells at Goldman Sachs and as a hedge fund manager, meant by the time he entered politics in his early 30s he was wealthy.

He is known for expensive gadgets and fashionable accessories – and still has an apartment in Santa Monica.
