Top of the Proms
sir – Nicholas Kenyon’s piece on the Proms’ tendency to push boundaries (Comment, July 19) reminds me of my father’s recollection of Sir Henry Wood conducting the first night of Ravel’s Boléro to a packed audience at the Queen’s Hall.
At the dramatic finale, the excited response was a hail of bowler hats flung into the air and on to the stage – my father’s included. Michelle Bloore
