Fuel protesters block motorways

-

FUEL protesters have disrupted the roads in the South West by driving in slow convoys on motorways.

As thousands of people set off for their summer holidays to Devon and Cornwall, journeys were held up by “slow-moving roadblocks” on three lanes of the M5 in Somerset.

Protesters drove at 30mph and then, after lunchtime, blockaded a petrol station in Bridgwater. The protests contributed to delays of around an hour for those heading to the West Country.

Mikey Dave, a protest organiser, said: “We are protesting at the cost of living and fuel prices. We will show the Government that enough is enough, and us, the public, want the cost of living sorted out for everyone.”

Avon and Somerset Police had warned motorists about the disruption ahead of the protests.
