Road-rage driver who killed pensioner jailed for 10 years
A DRUNK driver who killed a 75-yearold grandfather and threatened to set fire to another motorist’s car during a five-hour “catalogue of carnage” has been jailed for 10 years and nine months.
Nottingham Crown Court was told James Gill, 39, accused Neil Robinson of walking on the wrong side of the road on Dec 16 last year.
He pushed Mr Robinson hard in the chest, causing him to fall and fracture his skull. Mr Robinson died in hospital six days later.
Prosecutor Sarah Knight said that after the attack, Gill, of Arksey in Doncaster, “embarked on a rampage of violence and aggression”.
He stole vodka from a supermarket and later threw a bottle out of his car window, where it smashed on a wall. When a driver asked him to pick it up, Gill told her: “I know littering is wrong but so is arson and I am more than happy to set fire to your car.”
He dragged a 68-year-old man out of his car and repeatedly punched him in the face, then was involved in a collision which left two female motorists with non-serious injuries. During his arrest, he attacked two officers.
Gill admitted manslaughter and charges including assault, drink-driving, criminal damage, and shoplifting.
