Crossbow kills pet cat and seriously injures another

- By Daily Telegraph Reporter

A CAT has died and another was seriously injured after they were shot with a crossbow.

The animals’ owners found their pets with serious injuries caused by a crossbow bolt in the Kerrow Drive area of Kingussie, in the Highlands.

One of the cats survived following treatment from a vet, but the other died.

The injured cat – a 10-year-old ginger Tabby called Nuke – was left with a nine-inch bolt lodged in its body from the attack.

Jim Mclean, the owner, said Nuke had been missing for two days before turning up at home badly injured.

The 52-year-old told the Daily Record: “We’d been out looking for him every day. He turned up yesterday at the back of the house and couldn’t get over the fence with this crossbow dart in him.

“It is not an accident, it is predatory... If they can do that to an animal, they could do it to a human. Everybody in the village is scared to let their animals out now. Somebody must know something about it, it is such a small, tightknit community. It is a lethal weapon.”

Police are appealing for information about the incidents.
