Spectators cheer as their teams’ pirogues are unveiled in the fishing village of Guet N’dar in Saint-louis, Senegal, on Saturday. Hundreds of thousands descend on to the banks of the Senegal River to watch races between different neighbourhoods and communities in the colourful dugout canoes – a tradition going back 200 years.
