Experts reject claim T-rex was three species
The Tyrannosaurus Rex was the “one true king of dinosaurs”, experts have said as academics argue over whether the predator was one species or three.
A paper by the self-taught dinosaur expert Gregory S Paul, who advised on the Jurassic Park films, said there was too much variation in T-rex fossils for it to be just one species.
He claimed that there were three, with the T-imperator evolving into T-rex and T-regina.
But scientists writing in the journal Evolutionary Biology found the paper “doesn’t hold up”.
Mr Paul told The Daily Telegraph the rebuttal itself is “a significantly flawed work” which “has errors of its own”.
