Out of service Cancer patients in limbo after heatwave impact
Cancer patients are missing out on treatment a week after the IT system at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals crashed because of the heatwave.
Some of the trust’s systems went offline last Tuesday after being “significantly affected” by the heat, with reports suggesting its servers had overheated when temperatures reached record highs of 40.2C in London. But a week on, patients say care is still disrupted, with many awaiting surgery, test results and chemotherapy left in limbo. Sources at the trust said staff still have no access to patients’ medical history.
