Football at its finest

sir – How refreshing to watch a really entertaining, positive football match (Sport, July 27).

The women’s England versus Sweden game was a brilliant victory for the Lionesses and, unlike when the men are playing, I could count on one hand the number of times a player fell to the ground, apparently writhing in agony. The team just got on with it and showed how football should be played. Nigel Lines

sir – I am now hooked on women’s football. They put the England men to shame. They don’t dive or argue with the referee and are inventive enough to do the unexpected. A back-heel goal? Wonderful.
