England’s Lionesses are hungry for their first major tournament victory, having captured the hearts of the nation with their run to Sunday’s much-awaited showpiece. They booked their spot in the final with a dominant performance on Tuesday, demolishing Sweden. Alessia Russo’s audacious backheeled goal in the 4-0 triumph dazzled audiences across the world and was a defining moment in this competition. Sarina Wiegman’s team will take to the stage at Wembley Stadium, the home of English football, where a recordbreaking crowd awaits.

Commonwealth Games Today to Aug 8
Birmingham plays host to athletes who hail from 72 Commonwealth nations and territories. The multi-sport event starts today and for the first time will feature women’s T20 cricket as an event held at the Test ground Edgbaston. Heather Knight’s side are fresh off a 3-0 series victory over fellow tournament hopefuls South Africa. The Games will also include eight para-sports. TV BBC channels.
British Open Aug 4-7
Muirfield will welcome the stars of women’s golf next week for the very first time. Sweden’s Anna Nordqvist claimed her third major at last year’s Open. She will be in action again alongside top-ranked Briton Georgia Hall and Canadian Brooke Henderson, fresh from victory at the Evian Championship last week. Australia’s Minjee Lee and American Lexi Thompson chased home Chun In-gee in last month’s PGA Championship, and are in fine form going into this year’s competition. TV BBC Two.*
