Laurence Olivier plays Mr Darcy in Robert Z Leonard’s bubbly adaptation of Jane Austen’s blistering Regency satire. Mrs Bennet (Mary Boland) has five daughters, and is sure that one of them would match well with their wealthy new neighbour, Mr Bingley (Bruce Lester). Greer Garson has poise as Elizabeth. The film won an Oscar for Best Art Direction, with a screenplay by Aldous Huxley and Jane Murfin.
