It’s coming home, but not to No 10 PM denies snub

-

Boris Johnson has denied snubbing the Lionesses after it emerged he will not host a Downing Street party for the Euro 2022 winning team this week.

The Prime Minister’s spokesman said there are currently no plans to organise a victory reception at No10 for the triumphant England side.

Such gatherings have been held for the nation’s male sporting heroes, including the teams that won the 2003 Rugby World Cup and the 2005 Ashes.

There was also fury that the Lionesses were not given an open-top bus tour in London, with blame directed at the Football Association.

Instead, a celebration was hastily organised in Trafalgar Square, which was a fan park during the Euros. It was broadcast on BBC One for 20 minutes.

Mr Johnson did not attend Sunday night’s final at Wembley, which took place the day after his belated wedding celebration in the Cotswolds.

He watched the game on television with his family at Chequers while the German leader, Olaf Scholz, cheered his side on from the stands.

No10 suggested the PM could hold a party for the Lionesses later in the summer.
