Ukraine war’s end
SIR – General Lord Dannatt (Comment, July 30), discussing Ukraine, writes: “With the obvious exception of the Second World War, most modern conflicts have ended in negotiation not outright victory on the battlefield.”
Some exceptions: Suez, Vietnam, Afghanistan (Russia) Afghanistan (Us-led coalition), the Falklands – all ended in a military victory for one side, and no negotiated settlement.
I wish Ukraine outright victory. Jeremy Lane
