Hospital food
SIR – Geoff Neale (Letters, August 1) asks why politicians have not raised the matter of a charge for hospital food.
Having spent five weeks last summer in University College London Hospital (where I received exemplary medical care) I know why they do not.
The hospital food was, without exception, awful and, at times, undercooked and inedible. Mostly I had little appetite but my husband still spent a small fortune bringing me food that was palatable and appealing.
But if we move towards charging for hospital food it must be with a change in mindset that takes into account the needs of the patient.
