Basking shark
Second only to the whale shark in size, it lives on plankton and is a vulnerable because of commercial fishing. Adults typically reach 26ft in length.
Porbeagle shark
A warm-blooded shark that has been classed as vulnerable globally and critically endangered in the northeast Atlantic and Mediterranean.
Thresher shark
Vulnerable because of its low fertility. It can grow to six metres in length, nearly half of which comprises its elongated upper fins.
Starry smooth-hound
Has a more flexible body than other sharks and blunt teeth. A smaller species, it can be identified by the white specks on its back.
Thornback ray
This close relative of sharks has a soft skeleton, oversized fins, a kite-shaped body and a long, thorny tail. Its back is covered with thorny spines.
