Meghan and Mandela
SIR – As an avid follower of the science-fiction series Fringe, I was surprised to find Meghan Markle, as she was back in 2009, acting so badly that her character was eradicated after two episodes, without explanation.
From such inauspicious beginnings, Ms Markle obtained a starring role as the Duchess of Sussex. The occasion of her elevation to the aristocracy by marriage was of such import that it was celebrated as being equivalent to the release of Nelson Mandela, or so she claims (report, September 2).
Such an assertion is beyond grandiosity or even narcissism and borders on the bizarre. It would have not seemed out of place in Fringe. John Hanson
