PSG stars face backlash after mocking call to ditch jet travel
FRANCE’S top football club, Paris Saintgermain (PSG), faced accusations of being out of touch yesterday after Kylian Mbappe, its star striker, and coach Christophe Galtier mocked suggestions that they take the train rather than private jets to away games.
After a summer of heatwaves linked to global warming, Alain Krakovitch, head of the national rail company SNCF, suggested the PSG players move with the times. He tweeted: “I renew our proposal for a TGV offer suited to your specific needs in line with our common interests – safety, speed, services and eco-mobility.”
But Galtier heaped ridicule on the idea during a club news conference. “We had a chat with travel organisers earlier to see if we can travel by sandyacht,” he quipped, referring to the sailpowered carts popular on certain French beaches.
Mbappe laughed uncontrollably. France’s government is calling on its citizens to cut energy use by 10 per cent.
