Police question parents of baby on life-support

The parents of a baby at the centre of a life-support fight were questioned by police after the boy suffered what appeared to be “non-accidental injuries” to his brain and ribs, the Court of Appeal has been told.

The unnamed couple of Bangladeshi origin brought the case to court when it emerged that the five-month-old infant had tried to breathe after doctors at a London hospital diagnosed him as being brain-stem dead.

Bruno Quintavalle, their barrister, gave details of the police investigation as he argued the High Court case had been unfair as the pair had no legal representation. Appeal Court judges are due to rule on the case tomorrow.
