Half of parents forced to cut down on food shop

Almost half of parents with young children have cut back on food and other essentials, figures show.

Since March 2021, 40 per cent of those with school-age children have reduced what they spend on groceries and essentials, compared with 34 per cent of those without children, Office for National Statistics data reveal.

Sarah Coles, a personal finance analyst, said: “Life will have changed for everyone in the last 17 months [but] parents are bearing the brunt of it.”
