Two men jailed after cryptocurrency raid

Two raiders who forced their victims to open cryptocurrency accounts at gunpoint to try to covertly transfer stolen funds have been jailed.

Jordan Barrett, 23, and Ted Richards, 24, stormed into a house in Carlisle, Cumbria, in February 2020, one holding a starter pistol and the other a knife. The victims’ personal details, including photos and identification, were then used to try to send £3,500 to a cryptocurrency account.

At Carlisle Crown Court yesterday, Judge Nicholas Barker sentenced Richards, of Empire Square, Southwark, London, to six years in prison and Barrett to six years and nine months.
