Archaeologists discover remains of 100 children
The remains of up to 100 children have been found by archaeologists excavating a holy site discovered by accident in a Welsh town.
Experts believe building work to dig the foundations for a new bar in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, may have hit upon the burial site for the mysterious friary of St Saviours.
Several hundred skeletons were found and at least a third of them are of children aged under four.
Fran Murphy, the head of the Dyfed Archaeological Trust, said there are many clues to the existence of the friary, not least the details of financial transactions more than 600 years ago that were preserved in church records.
