High street attacker chose wrong victim
A man who attacked a teenager only to discover that he was a martial art champion has admitted grievous bodily harm in court.
Stuart Briggs, from Middlesbrough, targeted Alex Williams, 16, in Guisborough, North Yorkshire, last September. CCTV footage of the incident showed Briggs, 35, shouting “I’m going to smash your head in” before Mr Williams, a junior world champion in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, threw him on to the pavement.
At Teesside magistrates’ court, Briggs pleaded guilty to inflicting GBH without intent for the attack in which he bit a chunk out of the boy’s ear. He will be sentenced next month.
