Inefficient new homes

SIR – The problem of retrofitting homes (Property, September 3) is not confined to “period” properties.

Philip Harvey of Property Vision claims that “more than 80 per cent of new-builds have an energy efficiency rating on their EPC of A or B”. That may apply to high-end properties in London, but homes elsewhere are not being built to that standard. Most thrown up by mass-market developers aspire to achieve EPC Band C or D, but in practice struggle to reach Band E. Philip Newbold
