Invited guests New Zealander who saved man from shark

- Nick Squires

A New Zealand woman who rescued a snorkeller from the jaws of a great white shark is among dozens of heroes and special guests from across the Commonwealth invited to the funeral.

Jacinda Amey is one of 10 guests New Zealand has been allowed to invite, a privilege extended to all Commonwealth nations. Other countries can bring only two guests on top of state dignitaries.

Ms Amey will be joined by Kiingi Tuheitia, a Maori king, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, the celebrated soprano, and entrepreneur Jacqueline Gilbert.

New Zealand will also send Willie Apiata, a special forces soldier who won the Victoria Cross for his bravery under fire in Afghanistan.

Among the special guests that Australia will send is Ben Roberts-smith, awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery during a battle in Afghanistan in 2010 and Chris Waller, a trainer who looked after many of the late Queen’s horses.
