Fortune Teller: A TV Scam

Netflix

This Italian documentary series uses interviews and archive footage to delve into the bonkers story of Wanna Marchi and her daughter, Stefania Nobile, the queens of Italian TV shopping in the 1980s and 1990s. They sold “melting belly cream” and “lucky” trinkets, but were later jailed as con artists. Marchi’s unrepentance – “Idiots deserve to get conned” – is entertaining.

Escape from Kabul Airport BBC Two, 9pm

This film, from the makers of Four Hours at the Capitol,

tells the inside story of August 2021, when US troops finally withdrew from Afghanistan. With previously unseen on-theground footage from the evacuation, as well as interviews with evacuees, US Marines and Taliban fighters, it’s gripping, devastating and important television.
