Vine attacks social media for failing to mute stalker

-

Jeremy Vine has accused Youtube and Twitter of failing to act against hate accounts after his jailed stalker vowed he would soon be back online.

The broadcaster claimed that social media companies “don’t give a toss” about the content they host.

“He’s in prison and he’s still got a Twitter account. What the hell is that about?” he told BBC Two’s Newsnight.

Alex Belfield was sentenced to five years in prison for stalking Vine and three others online. The most recent video, posted on the day of his sentencing, is captioned: “Back soon.”

Youtube has “demonetised” his channel but it remains available to watch. Twitter declined to comment.
