Danish monarch, 82, has Covid after attending service
QUEEN Margrethe of Denmark, Europe’s longest-serving head of state, has tested positive for Covid-19 after attending Queen Elizabeth II’S funeral.
Margrethe, 82, tested positive for the second time this year on Tuesday, a day after the service, which was attended by 2,000 guests.
On Sunday, she attended the late Queen’s lying-in-state at Westminster Hall, and on Monday, she sat with other European monarchs at the funeral.
Margrethe, who has sat on the Danish throne for 50 years, has cancelled all engagements this week. Officials refused to give further details on her health but said the workload would be taken on by members of her family.
Margrethe, who has been vaccinated, last tested positive for coronavirus in February after having mild symptoms.
She became Europe’s sole reigning female monarch, and the longest-serving, after the death of Elizabeth II.
