The humble kale plant has seen an enormous surge in popularity over the past decade. Once derided as fit only for cattle, it is now the “superfood” of choice for a whole host of A-list celebrities from Michelle Obama to Beyoncé. Among smart millennials the “kale chip” is now a staple, and many have even convinced themselves that Gwyneth Paltrow was right when she claimed that it is as delicious and satisfying as the potato chip. There is one audience, however, that is yet to be convinced. According to a new study, unborn babies grimace and cry when their mother’s eat kale – a distaste which may stay with them even after birth. Parents who wish to hold their heads up in fashionable society should perhaps consider adding Paltrow’s blog to their children’s reading lists.
