James Gray gives us an elegant and staggeringly visualised adventure that deconstructs the dogged kind of alpha-heroism glorified by far too many US space movies. Brad Pitt is Roy Mcbride, an astronaut sent on an odyssey to Mars where he must confront his renegade father (and save Earth while he is at it). The supporting cast includes Donald Sutherland and the terrific Ruth Negga (Passing).
