Tartan Tykes

-

It is not unprecedented for football teams in one part of the UK to play in the league of another. Berwick Rangers are based in England but play in Scotland. Swansea and Cardiff play in the Championship. But they are at least geographically close. Doncaster is pretty much in the middle of England but the town’s new non-league team wants to play in the Scottish Cup. The club claims that the 1136 Treaty of Durham under which King Stephen ceded Doncaster to King David I of Scotland has never been revoked because of an administrative error, despite the town being reclaimed by Henry ll in 1157. It will come as news to proud Yorkshire folk to discover they are, in fact, Scots. Is there a Doncaster tartan?
