A bit previous Hunt ally’s ‘Freudian slip’

-

One Jeremy Hunt supporter said he would be a “fantastic prime minister” – before saying that his comment had been a “Freudian slip”.

Conservative MP Steve Brine, who backed Mr Hunt’s short-lived leadership bid, was asked on BBC’S Politics Live why it is that two MPS who backed Mr Hunt as leader had been “all over the airwaves”,

while the only Liz Truss supporter pulled out before the show aired.

He replied: “The reason we are out on the airwaves talking – to be fair I am often out of the airwaves – but the reason we are out on the airwaves supporting Jeremy is because I think he has the potential to be a fantastic prime minister... one day.”

He later claimed that this had been a “Freudian slip”, clarifying that Mr Hunt “did have the potential to be a good prime minister – which is why I tried to get him the top job.”
