Let smokers weigh up the risks themselves
SIR – Does Chris Whitty, the Government’s Chief Medical Officer, really need to impose his will on smokers (“Stub out the cigarette industry to protect nation’s health, says Whitty”, report, November 4)?
I have been a regular cigar smoker for the last 40 years. I enjoy a cigar and a brandy once a month, usually on the last Saturday. Before this, I smoked 40 cigarettes a day. I have been fully aware of the risks and prepared to take them. Professor Whitty must not be allowed to destroy any more freedoms.
