B-word? It shows the woman is just awesome, says Meghan

- By Hannah Furness ROYAL EDITOR

LABELLING women b----es just means they have “really awesome qualities”, the Duchess of Sussex has said.

She said calling a woman “the B-word” or “difficult” is simply a deflection from her “persistence, strength or strong opinion”.

Referring to it as a way to dismiss an “assertive woman in a position of power”, the Duchess argued that it is a “very convenient way” to keep women in their place.

She made her case in To B or Not to B, the latest episode of her podcast Archetypes, in which she admitted the old adage of “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me” was a “flat-out lie”.

The Duchess said: “Of course names hurt. But what happens when we use that pain to fuel purpose?”

She said she has “zero interest” in reclaiming the “B-word” as she avoided saying it out loud in full in the podcast devoted to exploring the term.

She opted not to use the term, saying instead “the B-word”, and spelling out the word only once during the hourlong recording.

She went on to share advice from an unnamed friend who told her: “There’s a certain point when you come to terms with the fact that not everyone is going to like you.

“The goal can’t be for everyone to like you but the goal can be for them to respect you.”

She has herself been criticised for her alleged behaviour in the Royal family, was once called “Duchess Difficult” and has been subject to a bullying complaint, which she denies.
