Chilean police find body of British astronomer

A British astronomer who went missing in Chile on a research trip has been found dead.

Thomas Marsh’s body was discovered during a search of a vast area surroundin­g the Silla Observator­y where he was conducting a project for the University of Warwick.

“After an intense search by a multidisci­plinary team, police officers found the lifeless body of an astronomer missing since Sept16,” the police unit in the northern region of Coquimbo said on Twitter.

The authoritie­s did not mention a cause of death.

The observator­y is located on the southern edge of the Atacama Desert, about 375 miles from Santiago.
