UK summons Iran envoy over threats to reporters
Iran’s most senior diplomat in Britain has been summoned to the Foreign Office after police received “credible information” about a threat to the lives of journalists in the UK.
James Cleverly, the Foreign Secretary, said he called in Mehdi Hosseini Matin to make it clear “intimidation of any kind” towards members of the press would not be tolerated.
He did not identify the journalists, but Iran International, a Uk-based Persian-language news TV channel, said police had notified two members of staff of a rise in threats towards them representing “a significant risk to their lives and those of their families”.
