Writer backs Rowling over ‘abominable’ sexism

JK Rowling is a victim of “abominable” sexism, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has said. The Nigerian writer said attacks on the Harry Potter author for her gender critical views would not have been levelled at a man.

“I think a man who aired his views, reasonable views, would not be treated that way,” she said.

Adichie said she formed her views after reading Rowling’s essay on sex, gender and womanhood, that was nominated for the BBC Russell Prize.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Adichie said she thought it was “very dangerous” that people were “refusing to engage with what she (Rowling) said” but were “hurling insults”.
