Staycations lose shine as travellers look overseas
Holiday let booking prices are sliding as the cost of living crisis and the return of international travel bring an end to the “staycation” boom.
The average rate booked on a UK holiday let fell by 5 per cent year-onyear in September to £157 per night, according to AIRDNA, a data firm.
This was £13 per night less than in September last year. Travel curbs brought fierce demand for domestic stays during the pandemic. In August last year, the average price per night hit £176, a third up from August 2019.
The sector now faces a double blow as holidaymakers cut back on spending and those who can afford it begin to travel abroad again.
