Iranian in Swedish secret service held as Russian spy
SWEDISH prosecutors yesterday charged two Iranian brothers with “aggravated espionage” for allegedly spying for Russia’s GRU military intelligence service for around a decade.
One of the brothers reportedly worked for the Office for Special Information Gathering, the most secret section of Sweden’s military intelligence service.
“The information that has been obtained, transmitted and divulged could... if it comes into the hands of a foreign power, result in detriment to Sweden’s security,” Per Lindqvist, chief public prosecutor, said.
The two brothers were identified as Payam Kia, 35, and Peyman Kia, 42.
Peder Ohlsson, head of the armed forces’ press department, called the crimes “very serious”.
