Bullying claims against Raab are ‘plausible’

- Camilla Turner CHIEF POLITICAL CORRESPONDENT

ALLEGATIONS of bullying against Dominic Raab are “plausible”, a former Civil Service mandarin has said in his latest attack on the Government.

Mr Raab, the Justice Secretary and deputy Prime Minister, was a “tough boss”, according to Lord Mcdonald, who was permanent secretary at the Foreign Office until 2020.

Asked by Andrew Marr on LBC yesterday whether the characterisation of Mr Raab as someone who could bully and around whom bullying happened was plausible, Lord Mcdonald answered: “Yes.”

Civil servants in the Ministry of Justice were reportedly offered “routes” out of the department after Mr Raab was reappointed by Rishi Sunak.

A spokesperson for Mr Raab said: “He consistently holds himself to the highest standards of professionalism and has never received nor been made aware of any formal complaint against him.”

Speaking while on route to the G20 summit in Bali, Mr Sunak defended the Justice Secretary, saying he did not “recognise that characterisation of Dominic and I’m not aware of any formal complaints about him”.
