Royal cyphers

sir – I read with interest your report (November 14) on military uniforms and Queen Elizabeth II’S cypher.

My late husband did his National Service with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers from 1957 to 1959, and only realised 50 years later that his cap badge carried George VI’S crown, not that of Elizabeth II. Jennifer Wade
