Suffolk police sorry over sex victims’ data breach
Suffolk police have apologised after the personal details of victims of sexual assault were accidentally published on the force’s website. The force is said to have been informed of a “mass data breach” last week and took immediate steps to take the information offline.
Publishing any details which could directly or indirectly identify a victim of sexual assault is an offence under the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1976.
A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said: “This matter was quickly resolved and the information can no longer be accessed. An investigation is now taking place into how this error occurred.”
