Flood meeting a washout following weather warning
A COUNCIL meeting about how to protect your home from flood damage was cancelled as a result of poor weather because the organisers were worried attendees may get “wet”.
The Buckingham and Villages Community Board (BVCB) said yesterday’s planned event at the Buckingham Library car park would have to be rearranged. The organisers said the “irony” of cancelling the event due to bad weather was not lost on them.
They added however that there were concerns about the use of gazebos given the high winds and they didn’t want people getting soaked.
Ahead of the event, the BVCB said: “The public will be able to find out how to keep their homes and properties as safe as possible from flooding and what to do in the case of a flood.”
The Environment Agency, MDA flood resilience consultants, Buckingham town council and members of Buckinghamshire county council were all due to attend.
A Meteorological Office “moderate rain warning” was in place in Bucking
ham following a night of torrential downpours and strong winds.
Speaking about the reasons behind the cancellation, Patrick Fealey, vicechairman of the BVCB said: “The irony of the event being cancelled due to bad weather isn’t lost on us.
“However, it was due to take place outside in pouring rain and high winds so there was concern about using the
gazebos and that people would not turn out for this important event – plus we didn’t want people getting wet and cold when we could avoid it.
“On a serious note, the people of Buckingham and the surrounding area have been badly impacted by flooding in the town in recent years so events like this are really important and a new date will be arranged as soon as possible.”
