Cleaner sues colleague for ‘cheeky monkey’ slur
A cleaner has won almost £30,000 in a race claim after a colleague called him a “cheeky monkey” and compared him to a golliwog.
Somali national Faisal Abdi accused Susan Standing – a fellow worker at services firm TC Facilities Management – of using the phrase during a disagreement at work.
When the cleaner complained, his bosses told him Ms Standing may have used such a comment as a “term of endearment” and that he should “appreciate there are cultural differences in language”.
Mr Abdi was awarded £29,251.36 after suing for discrimination and harassment.
