Doctor apologises to parents in Letby trial
A consultant paediatrician apologised to parents in the Lucy Letby trial for not pressing for a post mortem to be carried out on their newborn.
The child, named “Baby E” in the trial, suffered a catastrophic postnatal collapse in the neonatal unit of the Countess of Chester Hospital, where Ms Letby worked as a nurse. Yesterday, the doctor who pronounced the infant dead looked towards his parents in the gallery at Manchester Crown Court as she said: “I apologise to them that I didn’t push for a post mortem.”
According to the prosecution, Baby E became Ms Letby’s fourth murder victim when he died on Aug 3 2015.
The trial continues.
